Our Service - Radio Warneford In The Community

Radio Warneford works hard to ensure that patients feel they're involved in what's going on in the local community, not just outside the hospital but also inside.

Working With The Community

Radio Warneford regularly invites people from local charities like the League Of Friends and the Red Cross to take part in our programmes. We also work with other local organisations to produce special programmes and features. The Priory Theatre in Kenilworth recorded the play "Love Letters" by A. R. Gurney for our 1997 Christmas Schedule while the children of Our Lady and St. Teresa School in Cubbington wrote their own stories and poems about Christmas and came to read them out on air.

Members of Harbury Scouts group go on air.

More recently, members of the Playbox Theatre came to our studios to record two classic fairy tales, "Rumpelstiltskin" and "Hansel And Gretal". Both stories were specially adapted for Radio Warneford by the Playbox Executive Director, Mary King.

Patient Information

Every weekday evening, usually between 7.00pm and 8.00pm, patients can tune into their very own information service, Patient Information. This service keeps them informed on various aspects of hospital activities and services available to them.

Here's a quick rundown of some of our recent Patient Information items:-

  • Times of services held in the hospital Chapel.
  • How to get your hair cut or have a manicure while you are in hospital.
  • The hospital's United News shop and the ward trolley service.
  • The current activities of the League Of Friends Of Warwick Hospital and the Red Cross.
  • The times and routes of buses serving the hospital site.
  • The Occupational Therapy programmes.
  • The location of the hospital Coffee Shop and its opening times.

As well as these, we also inform patients about activities going on around the wards, the hospital fêtes and even any disruptions to parking so that they can inform their visitors.

Patient Information is a free service offered to all departments at Warwick Hospital and to charities and other organisations who provide services to patients. If your department or organisation would like to find out more about how to take advantage of our Patient Information service, read through our Patient Information page, e-mail us or write to the address shown on the Getting In Touch page.

Sponsored Programmes

It is important for us to forge close links with the local community, bringing a little of the outside world into the hospital. Sponsors can play an important role in our programme schedule.

The Apollo Cinema in Leamington Spa gives the station tremendous support. They donate cinema tickets for use as prizes for our ward quizzes and they sponsor our Thursday night programme Time Out. In 1998, the Apollo 4 Cinema helped us to stage a Charity Film Premiere to celebrate our 25th birthday and donated a large sum of money from a sale of film posters.

Previous sponsors have included Waterstones in Leamington Spa and Heron Mediteq Ltd from Stratford-upon-Avon.

There are further opportunities for local companies or organisations to sponsor other programmes and events, although Radio Warneford has strict guidelines over the nature of any sponsorship. If your organisation would like to know more, send us an e-mail or write to the address on the Getting In Touch page.
